Perry Vanderloop is a downtown merchant marching in his father’s footsteps. Perry’s been at it 27 years. He started by stocking shelves at 14 when his father ran his first store in Kaukauna. In 2005 Perry and Jill Vanderloop bought the Appleton store from Perry’s father. Joseph’s Shoes has been in Appleton since 1982. The 4,000 square foot shop carries a huge inventory including over 35 different brands of shoes. The store employs five people versed in quality footwear. The staff at Joseph’s still measure customers feet. Perry said his father is “an incredible shoe guy. We just want to carry on the tradition.” According to Jill, “Those are big shoe prints to fill.”
